Honoring the BEST in the LGBT Community…

Gay Appreciation Awards thanks those in the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community who are often not recognized for the outstanding services and efforts they perform.

These individuals and businesses have made the LGBT Community into the viable, successful and powerful community it is today across the Gulf South.

How It Works

After careful consideration of feedback from past participants and Marsha before she passed, we agreed to update the format of how Nominations and Voting work for the 2018 Gay Appreciation Awards.  This year, nominations and voting are different.

Nominations | June 4 — June 23 COMPLETED

In order to be considered for a Gay Appreciation Award, you must first be formally proposed as a candidate for an award.  You are welcome to submit as many nominations as you wish.  You can be nominated for multiple awards.  You are welcome to nominate yourself—we won’t tell.  However, you only need to be nominated once per award in order to be added to the official voting ballot.  Note: The words candidate and nominee are used interchangeably.

Upon being nominated for an award, the candidate will be notified and asked if they would like to be considered for the award.

Voting | June 26 — July 10 COMPLETED

The nominees will then be added to the official ballot.  Everyone and anyone is permitted to vote.  When you go to vote, you will be presented with the list of each award and each nominee will be listed under the award(s) they were nominated for.  You will be permitted one vote per award.  While voting will be anonymous—and we will not publicly share who you voted for—in order to keep voting honest, you will be asked for your email address.  And if you are a nominee, you can vote for yourself or anyone of your choosing.  The “winner” of each award will be based upon receiving the most votes.

Voting will occur on our website and we recommend that you follow our facebook page, facebook event, and/or subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date.

Gay Appreciation Awards Gala | July 21 (Oz)

Upon completion of the voting period, we will announce the top 5 vote recipients from each category.  And the top vote recipient for each category will be announced live on stage at the Gay Appreciation Awards Gala.  To RSVP for the Gala, visit the facebook event.

Tickets to attend the Gala will be sold for $10 and VIP tables will be available.  Please email for details on purchasing and reserving a VIP table. Purchase tickets here.
